1999-00 Mission Statement and Goals
Peacock Middle School School School Improvement Plan (SIP)

The Board of Education, faculty, staff, students, and community of Itasca Public School District 10 are dedicated to academic excellence and the cultivation of individual strengths and talents in a supportive democratic environment where individual differences and respect for the rights of others guide school and community behavior.

    1. To pursue academic excellence for all students and the district
    2. To support and encourage staff development
    3. To promote collaborative and interpersonal skills which maintain a communication network reflecting family, staff, community, and school board expectations
    4. To support the implementation of the instructional technology plan
    5. To respond to the changing cultural, developmental, social and educational needs of the students and community
    6. To review, assess and modify the foreign language program
    7. To maintain efficient and responsible fiscal management policies in support of an excellent educational system

In support of this mission statement, Peacock embraces the following goals:

    1. To pursue academic excellence for all students
    2. To provide challenges and enrichment for the talented and gifted
    3. To implement a 6th-8th grade foreign language program
    4. To implement a tutorial program for academically at-risk students facilitated by students and staff members
    5. To integrate available technology in support and enhancement of grade-level and subject-area curriculum
    6. To reduce building-wide discipline problems by implementing team-based early identification and mediation strategies, peer mediation programs, student reward systems, parenting classes, and tutorials
    7. To create and implement interdisciplinary efforts among and between grade levels and subject areas
    8. To integrate self-contained special education students into regular education programs
    9. To improve physical fitness levels for all students by providing a challenging and comprehensive physical education program that integrates fitness, health, and nutrition
    10. To create an appreciation and enjoyment among students for the fine arts by providing forums for students’ artistic expression in music, dance and art
    11. To provide all students with opportunities for cocurricular involvement before- and/or after-school
    12. To support and promote student involvement within the community
    13. To provide for a participatory form of government by establishing a leadership council consisting of team leaders and student council representatives
    14. To maintain a community/staff-based advisory council that reviews district and building level procedures and reports its recommendations to the board of education
    15. To provide the community with a variety of meaningful opportunities for involvement in school-sponsored activities
    16. To create and implement effective school-to-community and school-to-district communication systems
    17. To investigate and utilize community resources in support of student and family needs
