Peacock Middle School > Student Services > Mrs. Jomarron

Mrs. Jomarron, Seventh Grade Special Education
Peacock Middle School

The goal of this program is to provide the appropriate amount of support to assist students in building compensation skills to enhance independent academic and social performance.

The special education teacher will try to meet this goal through a variety of ways. Following is a brief description of how a child will be serviced throughout the day. Of course not all students receive the same modification or support. Every modification is made based on the individual child’s needs as stated in his or her IEP.

Mainstream classes

In the mainstream classes assistance will be provided when needed by a teacher’s aide or the special education teacher. All assistance will be given discreetly, keeping in mind each student’s self esteem and comfort level.

Modifications will be made to assist students in the academics. Spelling tests will be given in a multiple-choice format when appropriate and lists can also be reduced. Outlines, study guides, study sessions, alternate reading assignments and guided practice are other examples of assistance given.

Common Time

Common time will be split into two areas. One area will be reading and writing enhancement. Novels will be read, along with reinforcing reading strategies as well vocabulary development. The other block of time will be used as a study hall to assist students in organization, review difficult concepts, complete homework assignments and conduct study sessions.

Self contained classes

A Language Arts and Math class is offered in a very small group setting that is taught by the special education teacher for those students who require this level of service. Each of these classes parallels the mainstream curriculum. The content is modified to meet the needs of the students and the pace is set to ensure comprehension of material.

Communication

Communication is essential between parents and teachers.  Academic assignments as well as overall updates will be communicated to parents on a regular basis.  Please email Julie Jomarron at or call at 773 1232 ext 2213 with any questions or concerns.
