Mr. Poremba, Language Arts/Reading
Peacock Middle School

Students may need to arrange time for computer usage before or after school (especially because of absence or failure to have ID card).
Parents are encouraged to help students review spelling words, revise essays, and study for tests.
Students are asked to return library books promptly.
All books read for reports must be pre-approved.
Book reviews will be due during the following months: October, December, February, and April.
Independent writing projects will be due during the following months: September, November, January, and March.
Thursdays are spelling days.
Textbooks: Spelling, ScottForesman, 1995; Writer's Choice, Glencoe, 1997; Encounters, Jamestown, 1995; and The Language of Literature, McDougal Littell, 1997
Class novels: A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck, Random House, 1994; and Canyons by Gary Paulsen, Dell, 1991.
Group novel to include the following or another approved choice: The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Dogsong by Gary Paulsen, A Gathering of Days by Joan W. Blos Katherine Called Birdy by Karen Cushman, The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Chris's War by Carol Matas, The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare, and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.
