Book Report (100 points) Grade 7

Important Dates

Week of September 1: report assigned, books checked out, and books approved

Week of September 8: books approved

Week of September 15: final approval (last chance to change)

Week of October 1: reports due

 

You will need to complete this report before, during, and after reading the book. After you have completed the first draft, you must word process or write a final copy. Your final copy must be in the order that I have listed below. I will award 10 points based on proper spelling, grammar, usage, capitalization, and punctuation. I will also keep in mind organization and overall effectiveness.

 

Reason for choosing (10 points)

Using the title, book jacket information, and other relevant reasons in a paragraph explain why this is the book that you have chosen to read.

 

Predictions (10 points)

Create a chart of predictions. Make at least five as you are reading. Verify each. If something else happens, list what happens.

 

Connection (10 points)

Write a paragraph in which you relate one event from the book to other books you have read or to personal experience.

 

Characterization (10 points)

Write a paragraph in which you evaluate the action of a character. What does the character do? What motivates the character? Is it the right thing to do? Why or why not? What would you have done if you were in this situation?

 

Vocabulary (10 points)

Copy any two sentences with new or interesting words. Underline the new or interesting words. Write a definition of the words using context clues (sentence and cross-sentence clues). Then copy the definitions from a dictionary. Use the words in original sentences.

 

Story elements (10 points)

In a list identify the genre, type of narrator (point of view), setting, and theme.

 

Summary (10 points)

Create a timeline of the ten most important events in the novel.

 

Recommendation (10 points)

Write a paragraph in which you review the book. Include what you did and didn’t like, who should read it, and its overall quality.

 

Bibliography (10 points)

Book: Last name of author, first. Title. City of publication: Publisher, year of publication.

Dictionary: Title of dictionary. Edition. Year.
