Hello! My name is Ms. Kaye, and I will be your child's mathematics teacher this year. Before the year starts, I'm taking this opportunity to let you know that I'm delighted that your child will be in my class. I'm interested in having this be a productive, beneficial, and fun year for all of my students. As often as possible, I will communicate with you about classroom plans, your child's progress, and other events.

Today students were informed of classroom rules, consequences, rewards, group work, evaluation procedures, and other activities. They shared input with me on rewards and their personal interests. I will review classroom procedures with you on September's "Parent-Teacher Open House" night. Before then, you may be interested to know the following:

1. Materials Needed for Class Every Day:
Textbook, pencil, pen, spiral notebook, loose leaf paper, Peacock's assignment notebook

2. Homework:
a. In class, students need to record given assignments in their Peacock assignment notebook.
b. Homework should have student's name, page and problem numbers, and date in the upper right hand corner.
c. All work should be shown as demonstrated in class to receive credit.
d. Daily work should be done in pencil. Incomplete or late home work has a penalty.
e. Students will grade others' work in ink. After class discussion, I will collect and review the work. Daily work can be found in students' and all other times files.

3. Performance assessments, quizzes, and tests will be announced 2-3 days ahead of time.

4. Spiral Notebook:
Students should keep the classroom procedures handout and other handouts. Problems and notes given in class should be written in the spiral notebook. I will check notebooks from time to time. If the student is absent, he/she should get the notes from another student.

5. Evaluation:
Weight of various grades are shown in the following chart:
