Speech/Language Services

Speech/Language services are provided to students ages three years through eighth grade who are experiencing difficulty with articulation (producing speech sounds), receptive language (understanding) expressive language (sentence structure, ability to express ideas, response to questions), fluency, voice, and pragmatics (eye contact, maintaining a topic in conversation, turn-taking in conversation and other activities).

Speech/Language services are considered Special Education, and therefore follow the Illinois State Board of Education guidelines for identification, communication with parents, and necessary paperwork.

If a student is found eligible for services based on the results of a Speech/Language evaluation, he/she receives these services during the school day. Students are usually seen two to three times per week for twenty to thirty minutes per session. Students are grouped according to their needs.

I provide services to students at Benson on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Students at Franzen receive services on Tuesday and Thursday.
