Itasca School District Board members and staff extend a warm and welcoming return to our students and families for the 2009-2010 school year.  With numerous preparations completed during the summer months, we are proud to share new and exciting changes in instructional materials and enhancements within the school buildings.

In the area of instructional materials, middle school grade levels were provided with newly adopted mathematics materials.  Regular and advanced mathematics coursework materials for grade levels 6^th through 8^th were purchased from Glencoe/McGraw-Hill. Along with utilizing all of the support materials within the school setting, students are provided with links for viewing the books on-line within their homes.  With this new series, ease in accessing materials and excellent instructional opportunities will afford our students with an outstanding foundation in mathematics.

Over the summer months, the school buildings were thoroughly cleaned and prepared for the fall.  At Franzen Intermediate School, four additional classrooms were provided.  These instructional areas are within mobile classrooms, which are attached with an enclosed hallway to the building.  Security and ease in accessing the classrooms throughout each school day led the decision to add an attached hallway, in which funding from a state grant was utilized.

Entering into the 2009-2010 school year as superintendent, I have observed the excellence of our staff in providing outstanding educational opportunities to our district’s students.  As shown within the state test scores, students in Itasca School District continue to attain high assessment scores.  With more than 90 percent of our students meeting and exceeding the state standards, our staff, students and families are commended for their excellent educational accomplishments as we strive together to meet our goals.

Teaming with families and staff continues to be a united strength within our district.  As a community, we seek to enrich our children’s lives.  While continuing to rank among the highest in the performing schools throughout the area, we face challenges that include reduced financial resources and increased enrollment.  By uniting our energy and expertise, we will continue to nurture and provide outstanding learning opportunities for our children’s educational development.
