The Board of Education of Itasca School District #10, located in Itasca, Illinois is seeking candidates for the position of elementary principal for Elmer H. Franzen Intermediate School.  The principal will assume the position on July 1, 2009.

An elementary principalship available for Elmer H. Franzen Intermediate School is an exciting opportunity for an administrator seeking the challenge of educational leadership. 

Applications will be received through January 15, 2009.

District #10 consists of three elementary schools with approximately 900 students.  Benson Primary School serves grade levels preschool through second grade.  Franzen Intermediate School serves grade levels third through fifth grade.  F.E. Peacock Middle School serves grade levels sixth through eighth.

The district has 81 certified staff and 54 support staff members serving grade levels preschool through eighth grade.

The recently renovated schools provide an excellent learning environment as reflected by the annual attainment of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  Over 90 percent of our students meet or exceed the Illinois Learning Standards as measured by the Illinois Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT).

ELMER H. FRANZEN SCHOOL

The intermediate level school has 315 students in grades third through fifth.  With a total of 26 certified teachers assigned to the school, four to five class sections are offered at each grade level.

92.2% of the students at Franzen School met or exceeded the Illinois Standards during the 2007-2008 school year.  The building’s goals and objectives have focused on the area of reading comprehension.

THE COMMUNITY

The Village of Itasca is a stable community with a population of approximately 8300 located 30 minutes west of Chicago.  A large Nature Center is located within the Village of Itasca.  In addition, a newly developed River Walk provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for our outstanding community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Illinois Type 75 Certificate (General Administrative) or equivalent
  • Certified teacher with prior classroom experience at the elementary level
  • Masters Degree or higher in the field of education
  • Successful administrative leadership experience desired
  • Expertise in improvement of student achievement
  • Knowledgeable of communication tools for parents and community members

  • Implement effective leadership/management strategies
  • Facilitate curriculum development
  • Skills in improvement of student achievement
  • Develop effective communication tools for students, parents and community members
  • Demonstrate integrity, warmth, self-confidence, flexibility, good judgment and humor
  • Possess knowledge of Illinois State Board of Education initiatives, directives and requirements

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Itasca School District #10 welcomes nominations and applications of qualified persons for the position of principal at Elmer H. Franzen Intermediate School.  The screening process will begin in early January.  The Board of Education will make the appointment on or before March.  The new principal will assume responsibilities July 1, 2009.

  • Separate document describing two leadership achievements of which the applicant is most proud
  • Verification that the candidate holds an Illinois Type 75 Certificate (General Administrative) or the equivalent

COMPENSATION AND TERMS

  • Salary range commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • A competitive fringe benefit package
  • Twelve-month position that reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools
