Minutes of the Board of Education special meeting held Monday, June 4, 2001, in the Itasca School District #10 Administrative Office, 200 North Maple Street, Itasca, IL.

The purpose of the special meeting was to conduct two expulsion hearings.

I. President Nolte called the special meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. with the following ROLL CALL:

PRESENT Mr. Hervas Mr. McCann Mrs. McDonald Mrs. Nolte Mr. Powers Mr. Schawel Mr. Torii

ABSENT

ALSO PRESENT:

Dr. Glenn Acksel, Superintendent
Dr. Reinhard Nickisch, Principal, F.E. Peacock Middle School
Dr. Susan West, Counselor
Mr. Dan Shapiro, attorney from Moss & Bloomberg, school attorneys
Mrs. Catherine Seger, Recording Secretary
Parent of student A

The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

II. President Nolte welcomed visitors to the meeting.

III. Motion made by Mrs. McDonald and seconded by Mr. McCann that the board go to closed session for the purpose of conducting two expulsion hearings. The motion carried on the following ROLL CALL VOTE:

Mr. Hervas

The board entered a closed session at 6:04 p.m.

Motion made by Mrs. McDonald and seconded by Mr. Torii that the board return to open session. Motion passed on the following ROLL CALL VOTE:

Mrs. McDonald
Mr. Hervas
Mr. Powers
Mrs. Nolte

The board returned to open session at 7:20 p.m.

President Nolte stated that while in closed session, the board had conducted two separate expulsion hearings and no action was taken.

Motion made by Mr. Hervas and seconded by Mrs. McDonald that the Board of Education accept the recommendation from the administration that Student A be expelled for the remainder of the 2000-2001 school year. The motion carried on the following ROLL CALL VOTE:

Motion made by Mr. Hervas and seconded by Mr. McCann that the Board of Education accept the recommendation from the administration that Student B be expelled for the remainder of the 2000-2001 school year. The motion carried on the following ROLL CALL VOTE:

IV. There being no further business, President Nolte adjourned the meeting at 7:23 p.m.
