ITASCA SCHOOL DISTRICT #10
ITASCA, ILLINOIS 60143-1722

Minutes of the Superintendent Search Process Committee of the Itasca School District #10 Board of Education held October 15, 1999.
A meeting of the Itasca School District #10 Board of Education Superintendent Search Process Committee was held on Friday, October 15, 1999, at the Administrative Center, 200 North Maple Street, Itasca, Illinois 60143.
I. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. by Mr. Jim McCann, chairperson, with the following committee members present:
PRESENT
Mr. Hervas
Mr. McCann
Mr. Torii
ALSO PRESENT:
Dr. Glenn Acksel, Superintendent
Mrs. Catherine Seger, Recording Secretary
III. Mr. McCann led the committee in the Pledge of Allegiance.
IV. Superintendent Acksel stated that he was available to assist in any way
he could and would support whatever method the Board of Education
chose to use in the search for a new Superintendent. Chairman McCann
told the superintendent that his help would be needed and appreciated. He
then discussed a survey he had recently conducted. He contacted numerous
school districts in the area that had recently (within the last couple of years)
hired a new superintendent. Most of the districts had used search firms.
Discussion ensued. Pros and cons were discussed for all the options.
Mr. Hervas expressed an opinion that the entire board needed to review all options as well as decide what type of candidate District #10 would be seeking. The entire committee was in agreement with this as well as the suggestion made by Mr. Torii that the community also be included in the process.
Dr. Acksel reviewed points to be considered in the interview process. He also discussed different measures of conducting the search both pros and cons.
Discussion continued.
V. The committee will be making a recommendation at the November 3, 1999
regular Board meeting that the Board should hire a consultant to assist in the
search for the superintendent. The Board as a whole should interview at least
four consultants including the Illinois Association of School Boards.
The committee reviewed several sample brochures to see how they were conpiled and what firms are primarily being used. The IASB, Hazard, and Bickert, were search firms frequently employed. It was suggested that these firms be considered with possibly the addition of one local smaller Illinois firm as part of the four interviewed. These interviews should take place in January and the entire board should be present for the interview process. It was also suggested that the meetings take place on Wednesday evenings since that seems to be the most available evening.
VI. There being no further business, Mr. McCann adjourned the meeting at 8:55 a.m.
